Biography

P. Jacob Varghese, MD

P. Jacob Varghese, MD, is the director of the cardiac care unit at The George Washington University Hospital and is the associate director of the division of cardiology at The George Washington University School of Medicine. He is also a professor of medicine and pediatrics at The George Washington University School of Medicine and a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. His professional memberships include the Maryland Heart Association, the Society of Pediatric Research and the American Heart Association Committee on Basic Science.

Dr. Varghese graduated from the Medical College in India and completed his residency at the Medical College Hospital in Kerala, India. He has conducted a vast amount of research and instructed residents and cardiology fellows in the United States as well as abroad. He has served as an assistant professor of cardiology at the University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam, Netherlands, a research registrar at the University of Bristol, Bristol, England and a senior research associate and associate professor in the department of pediatric cardiology and medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Maryland in Baltimore.

His articles have been published in numerous professional journals including the Journal of Pediatrics, the American Heart Journal, Circulation, Circulation Research and the British Heart Journal. Dr. Varghese currently lives in Washington, D.C. with his wife, Praymol and their two children.
